The Black Stone

The Black Stone, Al-Hajar Al-Aswad, is positioned in one corner of the Ka’bah, which thousands of people kiss everyday due to it’s virtues.

1. CAME FROM PARADISE

Ibn ‘Abbaas narrated that the Prophet said: “The Black Stone descended from Paradise while being whiter than milk, then the sins of the children of Aadam turned it black.” [At-Tirmidhi]

2. MEANS OF WIPING SINS

The Prophet also said: “Touching the Black Stone and the Yemini Corner completely wipes out the sins.” [At-Tirmithi, Ibn Hibbaan, Al-Haakim and Ath-Thahabi]

3. A SUNNAH

Narrated ‘Abis bin Rabia: ‘Umar came near the black stone and kissed it and said “No doubt, I know that you are a stone and can neither benefit anyone nor harm anyone. Had I not seen Allah’s Apostle kissing you I would not have kissed you.” (Bukhari Book #26, Hadith #667)

4. A WARNING!

With the virtues presented above, we must be aware that unfortunatley when going to fulfil this act, people seem to lose senses and inconvenience each other to kiss the Black Stone. People push and shove, pulling each other away from it, even women lose their Hijab in attempting to kiss the stone. Some don’t even finish their Salah with the Imam and end up running to it before the Salam is given!

Let us be aware of the importance of looking after our fellow brothers and sisters, not inconveniencing each other and be civilised in carry out this act. Remember for this act do not forget your Salah, the importance of caring for others and your servitude to Allah.

Make dua to Allah to allow you to kiss the stone without any trouble and see how Allah accepts your duas!

This is the picture of the Black Stone where eight pieces are visible. It was drawn by the Calligrapher AI-Sheikh Muhammad Tahir AI-Kurdi who put transparent paper on the Black Stone itself and drew each piece separately. This took place on the 1st of Rabi AI-Awwal, 1376 H.
